I want to go over my top five Walmart crappie fishing baits so let’s go ahead and get started with number one.

1. Walmart marabou jig

One effective option for crappie fishing at Walmart is the Marabou Jig. These jigs are available in various sizes, with the recommended range for crappie being 1/32 ounce to 1/16 ounce. For example, you can find a 1/32 ounce jig priced at around two dollars for a pack of ten, making it a great value.

Marabou jigs are particularly effective because they mimic the movements of minnows, which are a preferred food source for crappie. The lifelike action and appearance of these jigs make them highly enticing to crappie, increasing your chances of a successful catch.

Using a balanced combination of weight and size is important, as it allows for accurate casting and presentation. Experiment with different sizes to find what works best for the specific conditions and preferences of the crappie you are targeting.

One of my favorite crappie baits at Walmart is an inline spinner, particularly the Blue Fox and South Bend brands. These lures not only attract crappie but also catch a wide range of fish including bass, bluegill, trout, and even catfish.

Walmart offers both Blue Fox and South Bend brands. Blue Fox is slightly cheaper, costing around six dollars for a pack of five lures, while South Bend is priced at approximately ten dollars for a pack of six lures. Both brands are equally effective and suitable for crappie fishing.

For crappie, it is recommended to use a size 2 or size 1 inline spinner. These sizes are ideal for targeting crappie and increasing your chances of a successful catch.

Inline spinners are versatile and have the ability to attract various fish species, making them a popular choice among anglers. Consider adding Blue Fox or South Bend inline spinners to your tackle box for a rewarding crappie fishing experience.

3. Walmart Lure: Plastic Bodied Jig

Third favorite bait for crappie that you can pick up at Walmart kind of goes back to the jigs but these are plastic jigs instead of the marabou jigs.

What I would do is when you’re at Walmart, go ahead and pick up at least some jigs that are about a 1/32 ounce, get some that are 1/16 ounce, and then one that are 1/2 ounce. The bigger jig heads, the heavier ones, are gonna be fishing deeper, so if the crappie are deeper, you’ll be using one of these bigger jig heads. If the crappie are pretty shallow, you’ll get more hits on these smaller jig heads. Basically, the nice thing about these is you can mix and match a lot of different baits.

I personally like the twister tails, these jig heads. They both work really well in different waters, so you’re gonna catch different numbers of fish, but just get a couple of different types of plastics in different size jig heads. Color matters a little bit but not as much as the weight and the body style of that bait.

4. Walmart Lure: Road Runner

Number four, guys, is going to be a roadrunner, and all that’s meant by Roadrunner is just this little extra blade on here. It’s basically a jig with a blade. It’s a little more expensive and you can mix it up as much, still not too terribly expensive. It’s about 2 bucks for this can you come.

5. Walmart Lure 5: 1-2 Crankbait

Finally, my fifth favorite bait at Walmart for crappie fishing is the small crankbait. Walmart offers options such as the Crappie Magic Crankbait, which measures approximately 1 inch in size. When selecting crankbaits for crappie, it is recommended to stay within the 1-2 inch range.

A small crankbait can effectively imitate the appearance and movement of small baitfish, making it an enticing target for crappie. Walmart provides a variety of small crankbaits suitable for crappie fishing, allowing you to choose different colors and models that suit your preferences and fishing conditions.

Bonus: Use Crappie Nibble

Here is a bonus tip for crappie fishing: use Crappie Nibble on your jigs. Initially, I was skeptical, but after trying it out, I noticed that using Crappie Nibble on my jigs resulted in getting more bites. Sometimes, you can even see the Crappie Nibble in the crappie’s mouth.

I typically put a Crappie Nibble on the top jig when using a jig rig. Interestingly, there were instances where the crappie would take the bottom jig before the top one, so it might be worth trying both combinations. When fishing with friends, I’ve noticed that changing to Crappie Nibbles on my jig often yielded more bites compared to using the same jig without them. While there are differing opinions on the effectiveness of Crappie Nibbles, many believe that they make the fish hold on a little longer, increasing your chances of landing them.
